Plank Construction

Smear that into the gap, and it will make it waterproof, as well as joining the transom to the bottom structurally.

To make the airboxes in the ends, simply put another plank in crosswise, and use the epoxy filler to seal in the edges.

For a mast step, you can simply bolt on a couple of blocks at the bottom of your bulkhead.

Use a metal cut off blade in your circular saw, or use a dremel to cut the ends of the bolts off.

Use a sander to knock down the rest, and so they are fairly smooth and won't puncture stuff rolling around in your airbox.

Mount it in there with a bow deck that overhangs, and preso you have a really simple mast step and partner.

For the kayak, I put on a coat of paint and went for my first test paddle. 2.5 hours of labor, and presto I was on the water.
