Board Boat
The Sunfish is an early example of many boats that are considered "Board Boats".
They either have no cockpit at all, or possibly a very small one which is only big enough to put your feet in.
This is BucketEars after being rebuilt.
This picture was taken about an hour after I swamped her out in the bay, the boat was completely awash with water and popped right back up even though the cockpit was full of water.
I was able to sail around with all that water, as I heeled the boat over some of the water would dump out.
If I had a dinghy bailer, it would have self drained as I sailed along.
A dinghy bailer is a hole in the bottom of the hull with a V shape around it, as you move thru the water, the water in the foot well is sucked out of the hole.
This is an example of a simple board boat that can be built with the plank construction technique.
It would have cross bulkheads and only a small opening for your feet.
To make it completely self draining, a false floor could be built into the foot well, so that all water would drain out.
